Wi-Fi Worries?
Thursday 14th March 2019
Wi-Fi has become the backbone of our network needs. It’s convenient, when it works, and can be very frustrating when it doesn’t! Consumer devices offer limited functionality and poor coverage in anything more than a one room office. The answer may lie with Ubiquiti’s excellent UniFi system.
Typical Wi-Fi networks rely on a single device for everything, leaving larger offices with poor coverage, dead spots, and high network traffic. Ubiquiti UniFi devices are scalable, customizable, fault tolerant, and offer much more control over network configuration.
Let’s take a quick look how it all fits together.
The workhorse of the operation is the UAP AC, looking like UFO’s and powered over ethernet (POE) these access points come in 4 configurations depending on your needs for range, throughput, and bandwidth. Ubiquity AP’s Use 802.11n MIMO technology for superior performance in the 2.4 and/or 5 GHz bands, and ranges up to 600 ft.
The UniFi Controller is the brains. Essentially, it’s a free piece of software that stores all the settings for your network and can run on almost any operating system. The controller will look for devices adopt them to the network and push the settings to them. You configure things such as DHCP, IP ranges, wireless networks and much more.
Advanced features include:
Unlimited Scalability; start with one and expand to thousands while maintaining a single unified management system.
Guest Portal/Hotspot Support; customisable options for Guest Portals include authentication, Hotspot setup, and the ability to use your own external portal server. You can even apply different bandwidth rates (download/upload), limit total data usage, and limit duration of use on Guest networks
WLAN Groups; The UniFi Controller can manage flexible configurations of large deployments. Create multiple WLAN groups and assign them to an AP’s radio.
Usage Statistics; UniFi organizes and visualizes network traffic in clear and easy-to-read graphs. Reporting and analytics are fully configurable.
If your having issues with your current Wi-Fi system, why not give us a call and see if this highly modular system can work for you.
